The Revierderby, also known as the Ruhr derby, is the name given to any association football match between two clubs in the Ruhr region, but almost always refers to the derby between Borussia Dortmund and FC Schalke 04.

Local derbys between other Ruhr teams ( VfL Bochum, MSV Duisburg, or Rot-Weiss Essen) are often called a minor Reiverderby.

On Tuesday, the Revierderby was announced as the first Bundesliga ghost game because of the coronavirus.

As the city of Dortmund announced, the legendary district derby between Borussia Dortmund and Schalke 04 will take place on Saturday in front of empty ranks.

Last Revierderby went without goals (0:0). So far there have been 113 duels between these two Ruhr clubs, 36 of them ended as a draw. Only 6 of 36 draws ended without goals, so statistically, it will be a pure goal-fest.

Borussia Dortmund deadly attack

With Jadon Sancho, Erling Haaland and Achraf Hakimi, Borussia Dortmund have three of the most exciting young attacking players in world football.

With 14 goals and 15 assists in the league this season, Jadon Sancho is now well and truly one of world football’s superstars, and he is only 19 years old. His solo potential is huge, but when he is in synergy with Erling Haaland, the Dortmund frontline is looking unstoppable.

Borussia Dortmund has 5 wins in a row with 11 scored goals.

The Schalke star that could make a difference in the Revierderby

Weston McKennie may only be into his third full season at the Veltins-Arena but is already regarded as one of the team’s most influential players.

Only 21, McKennie is playing one of the most important roles for Schalke. It is in midfield where he arguably still does his best work with his dynamic style of play, often tracking back to help out his defenders but also pushing forward with real endeavour to support the attack.
